Decision note
Before rebuilding your platform, make sure rebuilding is the answer.
A rewrite feels clean. It also resets years of hidden business logic and creates a long period of double maintenance.
The operating view
Reduce the decision before increasing the technology.
Name the failure mode
Performance, maintainability, reliability, deployment friction and product constraints are different problems.
Separate architecture from implementation quality
A codebase can be messy without requiring a new architecture; an architecture can be limiting even when the code is clean.
Price the migration
Include data movement, feature parity, dual-running systems, testing, operational risk and the opportunity cost of paused product work.
Prefer bounded replacement
When replacement is justified, carve out the highest-value boundary first instead of betting the company on a single cutover.
